Call for Creative Collaborators!
Deadline now extended to September 5th for Toronto Workshop & September 15th for Ottawa Workshop!
The Encampment
 conceived by Thom Sokoloski

A Studio SM (Thom Sokoloski / Jenny McCowan) creation.

The Encampment is a large-scale public participatory art installation that will incorporate seventy 19th century expeditionary tents erected in a geometric grid in Major’s Hill Park in Ottawa. Illuminated from within, the tents will create a glowing sculptural form visible all night long, which will be surrounded by the National Gallery of Canada, the United States Embassy, the Fairmont Château Laurier and Parliament Hill.

Studio SM proposes an archaeological encampment as its metaphor. A dig for artifacts is replaced by a dig into the collective memory of a people, its sense of place and history.

October 2-4, 2008
7pm - Midnight. Free to the public.
Major's Hill Park, Ottawa, Canada.

After creating an acclaimed version of The Encampment in New York City, Studio SM is working with CACL to present an unprecedented national version, inspired by the history of intellectual disability in Canada. The Ottawa version of The Encampment will be a significant and evocative expression of social and cultural inclusion.

We are looking for Creative Collaborators to participate!
Creative collaborators are invited to participate in a creative process with Studio SM to design and construct the installations that will be housed within each tent. Workshops with Studio SM will be held across the country.

To apply, please send an email to us (NationalEncampment@gmail.com) with a short statement outlining your background and why you want to participate.
